Stages of Making a Movie

Stages of Making a Movie

Idea --->Investment--->Pre-Production--->Production--->Post-Production.

First there is an idea. Hopefully it's been fleshed out to the point that someone or some people --either large investment firms/studios to private investors of various kinds-- want to invest money into the project. Once the money is funded (or at least partially funded) it goes into pre-production. Here, the crew is hired, locations found, vendors approached for various things, the script may be further revised and altered, the film is cast, the shooting schedule and calendar prepared, etc. There's a lot more in the way of minutae that I will skip over for the sake of answering your question quickly and clearly.
   Once all those elements have been satisfied, the movie goes into production, or the actual shooting of the film. This follows the production calendar created in pre-production.
   Once production is completed, the production cycle moves into post-production. Here, the movie is edited, color-corrected, has visual effects added to it, the soundtrack is incorporated, sound may be re-recorded, foley (the sounds of papers shuffling, footsteps landing, scuffling, etc) is done to enhance the film, the sound tracks are all mixed together, etc. Once this is done, the movie is released in various methods.
    Not all of these phases are linear. In fact, they may overlap quite a bit.
But there are minimum of 10 steps involved to produce a motion picture.

1) The idea or the concept or the Story
2) Script
3) Forming a team ( Who Fits the budget also with proper knowledge )
4) Finance /  Budget
5) Pre-Production ( Cast, Crew, Location etc )
6) Shoot
7) Post Production
8) Marketing ( Starts even before the shoot is complete )
9) Promotion
10) Release ( Theatres, televisions rights, trailers, soundtracks etc )
