Screenwriter Laptop
To be a little less specific than some other respondents:
Any laptop with a SSD (solid state drive). He'll notice a remarkable difference in quickness that really can't be replicated in any other way. Get 4 gigabytes of RAM or more—8 is a good happy medium—which will provide a little flexibility for other uses (photo organizing, etc). If it has USB 3 ports then it will work better with inexpensive external hard drives for long term storage (movies, photos, music).
Any computer with those elements will work very well for a writer. The Macbook Air is the archetype of this style of computer, but there are other great options out there.
Another tip: If your boyfriend isn't publishing his screenplays, but mostly using them for school, personal projects, learning the ropes, etc., I would recommend downloading celtx instead of Final Draft. Celtx has a very similar interface to Final Draft, and may be even easier to use. Celtx can save and edit Final Draft files. Additionally, celtx offers a free version (and a $15 premium version), which makes it much more doable for someone who may not actually end up pursuing screenwriting professionally. Of course, if he's actually making money off of his screenplays, the easiest bet is to just use Final Draft, as it will pay for itself pretty quickly.
If you want to try celtx out, download the free version from celtx.com
